1-on-1 DevOps Mentorship
I run focused, hands-on mentorship sessions for engineers looking to break into DevOps, level up their cloud skills, or work through a career transition. There is no fixed curriculum. We start from your background, set concrete goals, and work through real AWS, Terraform, and Kubernetes problems until you can handle them on your own.
Sessions run weekly, with async support between calls for the questions that come up while you practice.
Who This Is For
Most people who reach out fall into a few groups: developers or sysadmins who want to move into DevOps, engineers trying to land their first DevOps role, and juniors who already have the job but want to grow into mid-level or senior work. If you are somewhere in that range, the sessions will fit. If you are already a senior platform engineer, you probably need a peer rather than a mentor, and I will tell you that on the first call.
What Sessions Look Like
The content depends on your plan, but sessions are built from these pieces:
- A learning path built from your background and what you already know
- Walkthroughs of real AWS, Terraform, and Kubernetes setups
- CI/CD pipeline setup and DevSecOps practices
- Reviews of your code and infrastructure with direct feedback
- Career guidance: resume, interviews, and positioning
Between sessions you get exercises and small projects to work on, and we review the results together on the next call. The intake form asks which topics you want to focus on, from AWS and Terraform through CI/CD, DevSecOps, monitoring, and career guidance, so the plan starts from what you actually need.
Why Learn From Me
I work as a DevOps Team Lead and manage 10+ production environments day to day. Part of my job is mentoring the junior engineers on my own team, so this format is the same thing I already do at work. I hold the AWS Certified Solutions Architect and HashiCorp Terraform Associate certifications, and the walkthroughs we do come from infrastructure I actually run.
I also made this transition myself. I started as a backend developer at NAXA, moved into DevOps through an internship at Leapfrog, and worked up to leading a team. I remember which parts of that path were confusing and which advice turned out to be wrong, so you get to skip some of the detours I took.
What to Expect
Mentorship will not get you a job in 30 days, and I would be suspicious of anyone who promises that. What it gives you is structured practice on real infrastructure problems, plus feedback on your work while you do it.
Progress depends mostly on the hours you put in between sessions. People who do the exercises, break things, and bring questions to the next call move much faster than people who only show up to talk.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who is this mentorship for?
Engineers trying to get a first DevOps role, developers and sysadmins moving into DevOps from adjacent work, and junior DevOps engineers working toward mid-level or senior roles. Students who already write some code and want a structured way into cloud work also fit.
What does a session cover?
Whatever your plan needs at that point. Typical sessions include AWS, Terraform, or Kubernetes walkthroughs, reviews of infrastructure or pipeline work you did between calls, CI/CD and DevSecOps practice, and career topics like resume and interview preparation. The topics come from the goals we set at the start.
How much does it cost?
Fill in the intake form with your background and goals, and I come back with a proposed plan and pricing for your situation. The price depends on what you want to achieve, how often we meet, and how much support you need between sessions.
Do I need AWS experience to start?
No. The learning path is built from your current background. If you have never touched AWS, we start with fundamentals and build up. If you already use it at work, we go straight to the gaps.
Do you offer mock interviews and resume review?
Yes. Career guidance is part of the mentorship: resume and portfolio review, interview preparation, and how to position your existing experience for DevOps roles. If you want to run a session as a mock interview, we can do that.
